Types of Fire Pumps

Fire pumps are a critical component of fire protection systems, designed to provide high-pressure water flow to sprinkler systems and hydrants during emergencies. The main types of fire pumps include:

1. Centrifugal Fire Pumps

These are the most common type used in fire protection systems. They use centrifugal force to pressurize water and are ideal for large buildings and industrial setups.

2. Vertical Turbine Pumps

Used when the water source is below the pump (like in underground tanks or wells). These pumps are highly reliable and commonly installed in fire systems where suction lift is required.

3. End Suction Pumps

Compact and cost-effective, these pumps are suitable for smaller systems or as part of a combined booster package. They are easy to install and maintain.

4. Split Case Pumps

Known for high efficiency and durability, split case pumps are ideal for high-flow applications. Their design allows easy access for maintenance without disturbing the piping.

5. Positive Displacement Pumps

Less common, these are used where very high pressure is needed, such as foam systems or where water supply is limited. They include gear, vane, and piston pumps.

Each type is selected based on system design, building size, water source, and fire safety requirements.
